Ms. Karen, Pre-K Teacher

My name is Karen Cornella. I will be teaching in the 4 and 5 year old Pre-K classroom. I graduated from Spring Grove High School many moons ago as Karen Ellingson. I taught swimming lessons and Sunday school. I graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College with a BA in Elementary Education. During college I was an aid at a preschool.

After college I moved to Colorado to be a ski instructor. While there, I discovered my love for everything outdoors and travel. I have been to 5 out of the 7 continents and look forward to seeing much more of this planet. I taught preschool in Breckenridge for 5 years before buying my house in Leadville, CO. I taught preschool there for over 2 years. I also met my husband, Shawn, there. We had our son, Oliver, and decided that we wanted to raise him in Spring Grove. We bought my grand parents' home and moved from the mountains to the rolling hills and farm land. We had our daughter Everlee here and I have been lucky enough to be a stay at home mom for the last 3 years. I was excited to hear that Darcy was opening the Nisse Treehouse. It is the perfect opportunity to do what I love right here in Spring Grove.

Ms. Megan, Preschool Teacher

My name is Megan Buxengard, formerly Megan Kingsley. I grew up in Cresco, Iowa. I graduated from Crestwood High school in 2005. From there I went to NICC and graduated with my Associates of Arts in Early Childhood in 2008. I moved to Spring Grove in 2011 and married Kyle Buxengard in 2014. We had our son Kendrick on January 28th, 2016. We could not be happier!

I have worked in a child care setting as a toddler or preschool teacher since 2007. I have trained in Creative Curriculum from Birth through Preschool, Teaching Strategies Gold Assessment, Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (P.B.I.S.), and am certified in Parent Aware.

I enjoy being able to help children learn and grow. At a young age they learn so many things about their emotions, manners, how to problem solve, interact with peers, and become their own little person. It is a great accomplishment at the end of the day when that goal was met by a child and to see their excitement, especially when telling their parents at pick up time. That in itself is very rewarding. I am very excited to be a part of the team at Nisse Treehouse and help your child learn and grow! See you in the Fall!

My name is Betty Johnson and I have lived in Spring Grove for most of my life. I've been married to my husband, Dean for almost 30 years. We have a daughter, Jenn, and 2 granddaughters, Lucy 12 and Livi 10, who live in Florida. We have a son, Matthew that lives in Spring Grove and our daughter Laura lives in Winona.

I've been working with young children for about 35 years. I taught at The Beary Patch Preschool from 1987-1997 and again from 2001-2011. At the same time, I was the Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) teacher. I had a home daycare from 1997-2001 and again from 2014 until health issues arose in 2016.. I moved to Kindergarten for 3 years from 2011-2014. During summers I would do daycare for school age kids.

I am looking forward to starting at Nisse Treehouse Day Care and Preschool and having the privilege to work with your child(ren). In fact, I was Darcy's preschool teacher!
